I've seen a couple tutorials on this forum but none of them worked and I'm not sure where to put the code when editing templates.

Theres a custom plugin for this type of a thing, the tutorials you saw are just quick ways for everyone to have access.

Tho the method could be done through CSS itself for specific people, but this way would be pretty time consuming.
