bots

I received the following message from our host.

Quote:We are writing to inform you that your directory:
<board main directory>

Had to be set to permissions 000 to prevent access as there were tons of bots hitting the member.php script in there causing issues for other users on the shared server.

You can set the permissions back to 755 to get it back online howeer, I would advise adding some sort of security to prevent it from being abused.

If you require any further assistance from us, feel free to contact us anytime, we offer 24/7 support.

I don't want to chmod this back until I've taken some security measures. My community is freaking out. I don't want to chmod it back until I've taken some security measures to prevent bots from pinging that file.

The first step will be to update to the latest version, which I hadn't done because I didn't find the time. What other steps do I need to take to prevent attacks on this file or others?
