Even if I wanted to fake stats, I wouldn't do so via JavaScript where even novices can see that they're faked. Instead, I'd expect something in the ACP which changes the cache.

Alot of Hit counters are fake on sites and offer to start out fake?
whats the big deal or difference? im not seeing it? the only thing i see is 9000 is over the top for mine! now if its way over the top which most are, then it is what it is! by that time , one might just get used of being a member and , say oh well! its usually the case with restaurants and any other business! I think alot of people are reading to much into this! when one looks at buying a car, youre going to find marketing tools in everything ! every trade has its tricks! My site is in the Const trade, theres one site thats huge, its a corp giant media owned site, they spam all the search sites with pages of their links, monopolzing them! they have fake stats on viewing threads to whos online ,and members, and they change them from time to time! the other three sites like mine are small and the ones that are using fake stats, are growing faster with that sense of instilled excitement that theres more fun and more interest with more members, people are just that way, if one sees a busy restaurant everyone thinks its good! LOL if its the deciding factor, to register then , there it is, alot of people know this is the way, days of ethics are gone! when it comes to being alone and weird, i'll prefer to grow my member base, with the same tactics as the corp giants do! I dont think this is about lying, cause theres alot of forums that dont have the correct name of who originally owns them and originally designed them! so what if u change the color or lay out! that doesnt mean anyone should just market it and say they own it and dont market it without the permission of the original designer and maker of the origninal template, yet thats the way it is, change one thing and its ok! so from the way i see it , theres too much being read into this! anyone can turn out the lights and turn on a red light! just ask jag? LOL

I still say one should not rely on JavaScript for stuff like this. You want high numbers to attract people, right? Well, search engines don't evaluate JavaScript, so you'll only impress people who find your forums anyways.
