Indeed... as Ryan said in the blog post though (don't quote me if I'm wrong, can't check it as it's blocked on this network), 1.4 > 1.6 won't be as big as 1.2 > 1.4, and he hopes 60% of plugins will work with just the compatibility needing to be changed. 2.0 will make people really go :| though.

It's a given though that all 1.x plugins won't work for 2.x. So for me...I can wait 3+ years for 2.0.

With the additions we have planned for the plugin/addon system... we'll see

A whole re-write would be good however not really needed. All we need is new features such as paypal subscriptions, extra profile features etc.

Anyway I'll be looking forward to MyBB 2.0 and how long will it take?

As it's 2.0, it's a big change, so a rewrite is kinda expected. As has been said a few times, it'll be a chance to learn from previous mistakes. And 2.0 will take a fair while I'd image but planning is underway.

Actually it is. What is behind the scene is as important as everything in front of the scene as well. If we get 2.0 right, it will spur much more development of plugins and themes.
