You can make it smaller by removing your experience plug-in, or switching to classic postbit mode. Otherwise, it's going to be that high.

Admin CP >> Configuration >> Show Thread Options >> Post Layout.

(You also need to go into your User CP and change it)

User CP >> Edit Options >> Thread View Options >> Put a check beside Display posts in classic mode.

when a new member registers will it automatically be in classic mode? or do they have to change it themselves?
