unknown sender email

No I mean ask them if they have a special way of setting the outgoing "name" for emails. I believe what you've given is the server to connect to.

i just found my hosting email setting,
the server username stated at the hosting is '+' instead of a '@' ..
is this the one causing the problem?

if i set to '+' instead.. it gives error log though..

Please post your board mail settings & your host.

Does the email of the sender that you're using inside the settings of mybb, has a real account set up in your hosting administration panel?

I too am getting the same problem.
I first setup forum A and copied this to create another forum B.
Surprisingly in Forum A, new message reply notifications contain "Unknown Sender" in the mail which isn't there in Forum B. While registration mails have no such problem.

I've also compared config/settiings.php files of both forums. No problems found.
I'm stuck what to do. My mybb version is 1.6
