2.0 MyBB 2.0 Suggestions
#21
If MyBB added a shoutbox I'd leave. I'm that much against it. I can't think of any forum software that has a built-in chat feature. It completely defeats the point of posts.

The rest of your suggestions are also unimportant for 2.0 imho.

Why are forum admins so quick to give away their traffic?

MyBB 2.0 should wait till HTML 5 is more standardized. Even if we wait 3 years to see a beta I think it's worth it. I'd rather see MyBB as cutting edge instead of mixing between the new and old.

Didn't say say it'd take around 2 years anyway since it was a total code rewrite?

Yes, but a lot of the base will probably be done before that and well everything revolves around the base so it can't stray to far from that.

I'd honestly like to see a WP style FTP setup for official plugin and theme download/installs

i would also like to see admin configurable table names so we can run multiple forums on single user base (users, privatemessages, sessions, banned, warnings, etc)

template variables that are dependent on acp settings, for example toplink to calendar not shown if it is disabled or no permissions. perhaps make it 'visible', 'visible if enabled', 'not visible', 'permission based'. this would allow things to be visible to those without permissions if the admin wants so the user can see the option and do what is needed to get permission, or not show the link at all if there is no permission. if the feature is disabled, it just is not shown. hope that makes sense.

Lost interest, sold my sites, will browse here once in a while. It's been fun.

Making inbuilt chatbox completly destroy the objective of forum.
My preference no Chat box at all.
If someone wants to use it, the person can use plugin.

What kind of social networking look you are looking for ?
It makes no sense to me.

I agree that WP makes it the easiest for end users to install plugins but it's not that different from MyBB really.

To install Plugin, How can One have the problem. When the person have installed the complete MYBB,
He/she should not be having any problem while installing plugin too. Moreover Read me file is always there to help. Smile

{Note for Plugin users who are new to MYBB :- Plugin must be taken from MYBB sites itself or from some recommended users and no such business with other ones as they can "can" code to exploit forum.}

This..

1. A chat feature is really not needed at all.

2. meh.. It is fast becoming hard to avoid the social stuff thanks to facebook. Kinda sucks but what can you do? Not sure of what the answer is honestly. Like you i don't see the point of driving traffic away which basically some of that does.

3. Agreed. I am in no hurry to have to do another massive upgrade again. Plus they can always sneak something in before then anyways.

Personally i have not much to suggest other then a nicer theme for 2.0 and cleaning up some stuff via less images in the postbit etc and making use of dropdowns ( user nic for poster info stuff etc ) instead. Basically all my suggestions involve the theme itself.

I would enjoy an enhanced calendar plugin, like the ones over at the SMF mods forum... like events, holidays etc.

Thx,
Michael

How many people actually use the calendar, though? imo it's more of a legacy component than anything else, leftovers. Some boards use it but imo it might be better suited as a plugin.
