Don't really disagree, it takes up space and looks like crap 99% of the time, just don't know who actually uses it or not.

Yup your right, I'll take some things off the side and shorten it a bit.

Smaller, slightly rounded corners on 'newthread', 'newreply', not on postbit images. No icons on them, no border, a nice grey with a small bullet point using the same orange on the theme.
My suggestions.
