No, image generator is the same.
Main difference is to use random input fields names and lenghts.
Example: captcha expects 6 chars, but in html code is information, that field size is 8-12 chars.
If the bot find a field name to fill (which is very difficult), enters too long code.

I updated files (add new pre-modified files for MyBB 1.6.4) and plugin still awaiting for validation.

What is the "contrib" folder and what does it stand for, I am unsure which place to place the file from it in to etc...

I attached pre-modified files in contrib folder. You have to modify original MyBB files to make plugin works in 100%, but you can use this files (all are for MyBB 1.6.4).

3. Optionally, edit files for full functionality
or replace the files in the directory "contrib/root"
or use patch file from "contrib/patch"
