MyBB – Forum security and what to do when hacked is a really good read on the subject. It was written by the lead of the MyBB support team and contains everything you need to know. Make sure to read it thoroughly.

Besides that, I also recommend installing Admin CP Honeypot which creates a fake admin directory and emails you the information of everyone who tried to login there.
