Not Solved Advice on how to change process of asking a question
#1
Not Solved
I am wanting to change the way a new thread is posted on forum.

I want more a Yahoo Answers style of asking questions, a more stepped approach:

1) Enter subject
2) Select Category
3) Give Detail
4) Submit

The idea being to make it simpler for people who are not familiar with a typical forum.

Any clues on where to start? I am reasonable with php/html but have no real working knowledge of the mybb system, although am ok with finding the parts to edit and roughly understanding what they do.

You could do this by simplifying the templates, disabling certain features and renaming stuff. You don't quite need to edit the files.

Thanks Faviouz, I want to make it staged process though, is this possible?

If it is possible any points on where to start would be great

What do you mean by staged process?

At the moment the process is this when asking a new question:

1) Browse to the relevant forum
2) Click new thread
3) Enter: Subject, select post icon, select font/size/colour/insert link/etc, post options, moderator options.

You get the idea.

I want to make the asking process really simple so anyone no matter what their experience with computers/websites or especially forums, can use the process to ask a question:

This would be the new process.

1) Enter 1 line question and click next
2) Select a subject category [This would be forum list]
3) Provide more detail
4) Select if you want email notifications
5a) If you not registered (register at this point)
5b) If you are registered login or post the question

I realise this is more steps, but I believe it to be a more "user friendly" way.
