I'm a but down with the spam today, had enough. I just had a major spam attack from probably 20 - 30 proxies.

Now having deleted them all and added them so spam - ip banning etc I feel I need to find this elusive plugin that requires a user to check a box before submitting a post as either thread or a reply.

I got the registration question - this has sorted the bot registration issue.
Got Aksmit Fassim and url post protection. I don't use captcha as it is useless and I allow guest posting.

Can anybody help me find the plugin for the check box in posts please Smile

Thank you.

And even though nowadays spam is created by real humans instead of bots, there are ways to reduce it. I recommend installing these plugins:

http://mods.mybb.com/view/stopforumspam-com-for-mybb
http://mods.mybb.com/view/fassim-anitspam
http://mods.mybb.com/view/recaptcha
http://mods.mybb.com/view/registration-s...y-question

These should help stop most spammers during registration. But for those who get it in, you can also use these:

http://mods.mybb.com/view/goodbye-spammer
http://yaldaram.com/showthread.php?tid=84
http://mybbhacks.zingaburga.com/showthread.php?tid=356

Those last two are, in my opinion, the best protection you can take against spammers. Why? Spammers usually register with the goal to spam your forum with links to their client's websites. By stopping them from using links in signatures, profiles and posts, they will probably leave and never come back. Who cares about a few nonsense posts, it's free content. At least I know they failed their mission!

Thanks for your time in replying. yes I got the majority of those but similar.

I have seen the mod/plugin in another forum, the one that Disturbed built. LunaticOutpost.com

If you nip over there and try to post an answer or a thread you will see what I mean.

thanks again.
My forum is at articlechase.com/beyondnews

It is very new, but just getting those silly spam posts.

You can see what I am trying to do - it has took me a long time to make the design as it is through trial and error. I know nothing about css coding. So this has been a learning experience for me.

I would love to ban the whole of Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Czech Republic ideally but I know I cannot do that effectively.

Hmmm I can try the No More Proxy Plugin, but that could cause a problem with legit users running from hotspot shields. The check box in posts will be brilliant.

If someone can help me with a code and explain where to put it - that would be fantastic.
Are you on a shared host? Can you ask your host to enable Mod_GeoIP?

No my host is Xi3 which are great btw. I suppose I could ask them to do the mod... that's a great idea if I can do it.

Thanks

If anyone has a plugin though for the check box that would be amazing.

I have managed to block most hits and now down to 1 every couple of days.

I set up a honeypot at project honeypot and denied the Ukraine and Russia IP's in my htaccess at root.

Errrr I think it is... you might as well tell everyone to pack up and go home within mybb support as we all do not get support for our forums on that basis.

My forum is mybb and the good people here help each other out, or that is the premise I have been led to believe. Wink

Back to the security issue.

I resolved it myself through my root folder .htaccess and the account registration question plugin. Plus the limit post url plugin.
Umm, no the " MyBB.com Community & Site Issues" forum is not a support forum for your site. There are specific forums meant for your sites support.
