It's a common system that phpBB lacks. I was with their community for a long time and a hook system was discussed but never actually implemented.
Modern OOP systems use class hierarchy and method naming conventions to run plugins in the right places.
Going to be completely honest here.
First forum I tried was phpbb. That was a nightmare. The most un-friendly forum software I have ever used.
Next I tried was SMF. This wasn't that bad. It was pretty simple to look after. I just hated the editor. So I google the best forum software and found

And that site said about MyBB. I was a member of a few forums that used MyBB and did like using it from a users point of view. So installed it.
Apart from a few problems I have been facing recently I can't say anything bad about it. It probably one of the best forum software thats about, and that includes paid for ones.
But this is a MyBB forum about MyBB so everyone here is going to say MyBB is great
But I did try a few before using MyBB and it is.
