I'd love it if you guys added a marketplace for designers to offer paid themes. Anyone else like the idea?
I'm iffy on the idea. A lot of of other open-source/free projects, e.g. Joomla, OpenCart allow people to sell products, but I dunno if that really fits our community.

I'm not sure how Pirata's progress with the new site is going, but I'll bring it up.
We will not be adding a paid section to this site. If you want to sell plugins you must open your own site.

Thanks for your input Dylan. May I ask why?
Because MyBB is opensource. That's the same reason you're not allowed to showcase paid plugins. Along with the fact we can't provide support for them as not everyone has access.
It is against our philosophy & intent for this site. I myself operate a site that will shortly be reopened just for my paid (yearly subscription style) plugins.

Well, as stated by Paul stated Joomla and OpenCart offer services to paid plugins and correct me if I'm wrong but WordPress also. I feel as though just because it's open source I don't understand why we can't give users the ability with a bit of cash they can get some nice and good premium themes. If I get a free piece of bread from a man giving away samples at the super market why can't I put a can of paid jelly on it? The themes are under the theme/plugin authors license, not MyBB's.
It isn't just because we're open source. As I stated its about the philosophy & intent. Its a decision that MyBB team made as a whole, and is not going to be changed easily. In fact it isn't likely to be changed at all. I'm against it and I sell some of my plugins.

I partially understand where you are coming from but step it up a notch and allow forums to use some nice and good premium skins. Most of the free themes available for MyBB end up being just the default skin with 4-5 color changes. Is that what you want MyBB known to be for the rest of it's existence? Another possibility is if the team decided wether the skin had enough potential to sell and how much the item will sell for but the author would sepcify a value they would like their price to be around. The reason I say that is because if I think my theme is only worth about $5 and you love it and price it as $45 per each sale I wouldn't like that.
Ugh. This old argument again. I remember there being a massive discussion on the matter about a year ago, maybe more. The short and simple result of it: not gonna happen.
