Please tell me where this looks any different from windows 7 aside from a missing start button (Which I want):

Just because there is a splash page now (That is basically just a nice looking start menu, instead of countless menus in a popup) doesn't mean it looks like a tablet OS. :/ I mean, I personally think they did an amazing job making it work well with both PC and tablets.
I agree Eric people are blowing this out of proportion. Quick question for those who have it. Is the show desktop button on the bottom right removed?
The Metro UI IS the bit that makes it a tablet OS.

Why even remove the start menu? What happens if you want multiple shortcuts in a start menu? Instead of having loads of stupid squares on a splash page? Metro is stupid. Why the hell do you need the Metro bloat on windows server?
Show desktop is still there Alex. Smile

@Tom

1. Because it's redundant
2. Use your desktop or taskbar instead of a third location for shortcuts
3. Nice looking apps organized however you like them? Yeah why in the world would they do that.. xp
4. Don't use Windows Server so no idea. ^.^
No it isn't. I use it every day, it isn't redundant. Let's say I have 150 applications, from a calculator to photoshop, can you put all of those in your desktop? Without it looking cluttered? No. Can you put them in the Metro UI without it being hard to navigate?

The start menu is organised. Searching for an icon in a sea of 150 is difficult. Looking fr an application beginning with the letter "M" in an alphabetical is easy.

The start menu is the only thing I don't like about OSX.
It is redundant (I'm meaning redundant in Win8 btw xp). xD But I won't argue such a simple point with you.

And also, yes, you can put countless programs in Metro (Though I prefer to use it simply as a holding place for my apps) and either use the scrollbar to quickly navigate, scroll through them with your mouse, or go to the top right and click search. All of them work better than clicking Start > Programs > Accessories > Paint

Also, the start menu wasn't organized, it was cluttered.

List me some good pros as compared to 7.
Mk, and these are all personal so don't expect sources or evidence backing me. xP

1. No start menu
2. Metro (Apparently I'm the only one on the site that likes it, or maybe I'm the only one giving it a fair chance xD)
3. Detailed task manager:

4. New Search is much better organized and much quicker:

5. Quick access menu (Hover top or bottom right corner of screen) makes it much quicker to search and stuff.
6. You can log into your XBL directly from Metro.
7. The new Windows Messenger <3<3<3<3<3<3:

8. Tons of other apps I cba to mention (And of course being able to switch between them by clicking the top left corner of your screen, or using quick access: http://i.minus.com/iClMA7qJ8Jh6v.png )

Also the interface now picks up on the color scheme of your background and automatically sets the color for your taskbar and program title bars accordingly. Pretty epic imo.

There's tons of other stuff as well, too much for me to sit here and screenshot / explain. xD
For me, the only really bad thing about W7 is that splash screen and the start menu being gone (at least by default and, apparently, with no easy way to activate it), metro style it self is not that bad at all.
Yeah, though like I said, after the feedback they received they'll be including the start menu by default with beta+ releases.
