I have a gaming forum for custom controllers and stuff like that well...
I went with Webhostinghub.com for hosting because at the time I thought they were one of the best shared webhosts offering 128 PHP upload file size limits among other perks.

But this webhost is continuing to disable my forum because it's getting too many hits and whatever.

So I need a VPS.. but I'm poor as *&@^.
I've already dished out over $200 for 3 years of hosting...
Does anyone know a good USA (or USA friendly) VPS provider that I can pay up to 3 years in advanced and offers some kind of an unmetered bandwidth service (unlimited to a certain point then throttled after that instead of being charged an arm and a leg for bandwidth).
I don't need anything fancy.. I just want to upload the database via myphpadmin and FTP the files to the host and have a few PHP options enabled like cURL. Please I need help because our current host is crippling us. I've no experience setting up an unmanaged VPS but I can learn.
http://linode.com and http://6sync.com - Are probably the best in the industry for unmanaged VPSs right now. And, I can vouch for them from personal experience.

http://digitalocean.com - Seems to be the up and comer who's going after them Toungue. They're cheap and take advantage of newer tech (easier to do when just starting). I plan on trying them out as soon as the Arch image is available again.

Ping aspergersnetwork.com, then load a few pages. I've got that site hosted with them, and it's fast... I mean, REALLY fast. and that's on the $10 a month plan.
thank you alex! thank you Ben.

I think I might be able to afford $10 a month! I can scrounge up a $120 to pay for a year.

Is there such a thing as which one of these is a better in terms of performance for OS for my droplet? Ubuntu, CentOS? I have no experience with either .. lol.
For the OS, debian is probably your best bet if this is your first VPS.
Arch linux FTW! Honestly I still find it the easiest distro for learning the command line. Although rolling releases scare some people.(for future reference though Ubuntu plans on switching to it)
For CentOS which is better? Fail2Ban or DenyHosts? I've already setup my SSH for a user and disabled root login.. so taking the proper steps on the way to strengthen security.. BUT I have a choice now of what to install and I'm not sure which one of the two does a better job?
I use Fail2Ban personally and it works pretty well.
Thanks Euan, I was leaning that direction too. What PHP modules are needed for MyBB again?
SimpleXML, cURL, and whatelse?
