I do see it. MyBB should do something about it.

Yep, spam seems to be on the up everywhere. We're doing what we can to combat it, but some are slipping through our various protections (CloudFlare Premium, StopForumSpam, Captcha). Those that do get through are spam cleaned and reported to StopForumSpam. We ask that users continue to report all spam posts so that we can deal with them.

It just happens to be that season, especially since 1.8 has been out for awhile and they have adapted to any new security measures. It's weird that they are making it through those two known spam protection systems however.

What we're seeing in our logs is that most of the IPs, Emails and Usernames being used are not in the SFS database at all. We're submitting them as we ban them (thanks to Goodbye Spammer), but unfortunately that doesn't help us too much (though it does help others).

I think I had to REPORT spammers EVERY DAY this week and some last week, and I'm sure other users had to do the same during the day and those gets cleaned up before I get on.
Here's a method we use and haven't had a BOT in months.
1: Change PERMISSIONS of NEW USERS group so that NEWLY registered users CANT START A NEW TOPIC
2: Create a Forum where they MUST VISIT and MUST REPLY to a SPECIFIC topic in there (there's a plugin for that)
You can LIMIT their posts to 1 every 10 minutes (there's a plugin for that )
3: Create a NEW USER GROUP with permission similar to NEW USERS: Give it a name eg: VERIFIED, ADVANCED USERS , etc. EXCEPT THIS NEW GROUP CAN START TOPICS, CAN REPLY...
4: Create a PROMOTION task... setup so members in NEW USERS GROUP are THEN promoted to (NAME of GROUP you chose in step #3) after meeting the criteria set in the promotion : Example: 2 posts. Must be registered for 2 hours, etc.
Simple, and works wonders.

We rarely see spam with a security question that is bit more trivia than just 'are you a robot' or similar ones. Like asking the first name of a famous person.

I think Kim Jong Un is trying to spam the forums
Kidding aside, try using NoCaptcha + Security Question that require logical thinking.

We already use security questions (though they should be changed again). NoCaptcha will be enabled soon (afaik we're using ReCaptcha atm)
