No, there is no alpha (yet). It doesn't currently have post icons, though it may yet be added.
It shouldn't be added. It has since long been a useless feature already expressed by a majority of the user base.
It could be more useful as an demonstrative plugin.

We are talking about the icons that have a "bug" image as an option, right? I've never used it and it wasn't really used for anything else for the board. It was like it was added just to look fancy and to demonstrate a fad for image inclusion at the height of board demonstrations and faster bandwidth capabilities served by ISP companies to the general public. Definitely should be moved to a plugin status, instead of a core feature since it serves no other purpose for the software, especially since thread prefixes can fill the void, and hopefully be a searchable field.
