I downloaded the whole plugin folder then deleted the three plugins through FTP altogether, still the same.

Just download it, open it and go through and make sure all of it's files are gone. Along with any other plugins he has tried to install. Sometimes just removing the part in inc/plugins isn't enough.
It's also a good idea to create a zip of your forums before adding any plugins, so if it breaks, just delete public_html and unzip.
