You'd need to edit a core file as the error page is all hardcoded: https://github.com/mybb/mybb/blob/featur...r.php#L542

I'm having this problem when I get a 500 error on my forums homepage. I can't access them at all. What is causing this?

Did you edit the templates ? Or add some plugins ?
You may find more infos about the cause in your server logs.

Try to have a look in your server logs, you will find which page provocs this error.
Usually, it's a typo in a php file which makes it incomprehensible by the server. You can reupload MyBB files (if you didn't makes change in the core) to correct that.
