Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages 2-3 times faster now.

A few more tweaks:

network.http.max-connections 64
network.http.max-connections-per-server 21
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server 8
WOW! thats awsome dus go alot faster. Thanks Cory!!
Heh thanks Smile
Although this is quite old it does kind of work. Although it puts more load on the server of the website you are viewing i think.
Yeah , it will put extra stress on the server, how'd you feel if you got 30+ people comming at to get something lol!

I done this before and it did speed things up but, it was only a couple a secounds faster which is nothing
Oh my god! Something to accelerate speed ACTUALLY works. :o
you also have a tool called firetune.

This makes my firefox extremely fast, nice 1!
When you have a slower wireless connection, this makes a big difference. Smile
If you're using 56k, this isn't recommended. If you have broadband or higher, it can make a whole lot of difference.
