Because of the following line profile fields are not parsed in quick replies.

As $profile_fields is defined in showthread.php but not newreply.php.

Is it better/possible to move probable duplicated code into the post handler?

I would agree, as I don't understand the reasoning for this particular decision to keep the profile fields cache outside the post handler.

Please open a PR, would be nice to get this fixed
