Having installed the Akismet plugin, we'd like a way to test if it's working. We have the API key set ( Board Settings -> Change -> Akismet - which was not immediatelt obvloius to us ).

Now, having the install done, we post a message with links to pecker enlargement and ED sites, and they get added to our site without objection.

What am I missing?

thanks!

Because you aren't recognized as a spammer. Akismet recognizes posts by a "fingerprint" if you will - a collection of data that has to match in order for the post to be recognized as "spam". In turn this allows for a less chance of incorrectly marked spam comments that are actually legit.

So say I wanted to post an "example" of a spam comment; It would go through fine because I'm not a "spammer", however if the same person did it who was a known "spammer" it wouldn't go through.
I suggest you use a proxy and post some viagra spam.
Thanks. We also found another way to test:

Set up a new user "viagra-test-123";

Login an post message usung "viagra-test-123" as subject.

Akismet rejects post and plces it in the Akismet Moderation section.

Dunno if this exact user name is a test key for Akismet or not. Anyhow, I know the plugin is at least talking to Akismet.

When configuring the Akismet plugin, you can specify which usergroups to not scan. By default, Administrator is not scanned.
Hello

I'm having trouble accessing the Akismet settings. I've installed the plugin (activated it), yet I do not see the Akismet settings in Board Settings -> Change -> ??

Any ideas what I did that is preventing it to be displayed? I've verified that I have akismet.php in /admin as well as /inc/plugins/akismet.php. The plugin 'activated' fine.. no errors, etc.

My current version of MyBB is 1.2.10, and the akismet plugin I download is 1.1.

Thanks!

Did you remember to get the API activation key?
Hello

Thanks for the reply. I have a Akismet key.. but I unable to find the area to add it to the plugin. I don't have Akismet Settings anywhere.

Thanks!
