I don't think so, i find it to be just a slow (but pretty) version of XP which is too resource thirsty. All the XP features run fine, its just new features that are buggy and crash alot. Using it is really no different to XP i find. It frustrates me though because one of our laptops which runs vista has a gig of ram and a 2 GHZ centrino CPU and it crashes constantly, is slow and is a real pain to use, on the other hand our one with 4 gig ram and a 2.5 dual core runs pretty smoothly but it is pretty annoying because imagine how well XP would run on that PC and for what? A pretty interface? I think Windows 7 will have to be good if Microsoft is to regain its credibility.

Isn't 2 Gigs the standard if you're trying to run Vista w/out slowdown. If so, then that's why it would be slow.
I don't hate vista at the starting....

I reguarly check for updates and installed them.

I installed Vista SP1, and thats where Vista became really screwed for me.

Can't boot, frequent freezes....argh, I am sick of it.

What brand was it? I know certain types have been having problems w/ it.

Just to check, did you check the vendor (like HP's website if it was an HP) for driver/etc. updates?

Vista SP1 Screwed both of my computers, my HP laptop and my built desktop. I just uninstalled it and they work great again.

As I said before, I have a Laptop from PCSpecialist.

Here are the specs:
- Display: 15.4" Widescreen (1440 X 900)
- CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2 X 2.20GHz)
- RAM: 2GB Corsair DDR2 667MHz (2x1GB)
- Hard Disk: 120GB SATA II Hard Drive
- CD/DVD Drive: 8x DVD±R/RW/Dual Layer (+ 24x CD-RW)

It plays games nice. Big Grin

Dell XPS. Alienware is good if you have an excess amount of money to spend and want to look good at LAN parties. Other than that you'll get more bang for your buck elsewhere.
Vista has much more security than it's famous UAC prompt. Trust me, if you commonly try changing/replacing/editing system files, you'll know that is' so much harder to do it in Vista (in fact, I had to boot into a copy of XP to change some of them, and no, they're not "locked" system files (ie the registry)).
(as an aside, Microsoft themselves, admit that UAC was designed to annoy users)

In terms of speed, they should run about the same, assuming you have no RAM issues.
I seriously don't see how Vista runs any faster than XP. I've yet to see a single benchmark demonstrating this (in fact, every single benchmark I've seen, comparing the two, show Vista a tad (though insignificantly) slower than XP in terms of CPU performance).

For those who like to argue that the same goes with XP when it was taking over Windows 98, unfortunately, sales statistics, along with the number of complaints, fail to support your argument.

All in all, I don't see Vista as an upgrade. It adds some extra applications, almost all of which can be done better by 3rd parties. Stuff like SuperFetch and ReadyBoost are available for XP. Other improvements, are either very minor/insignificant, or are really causing more issues than necessary.
And of course, the visual theme, well, IMO, that's just superficial and adds bloat.

Alienware is essentially Dell... But I'd recommend ASUS. Wink
I am using a Compaq notebook.

It seems that HP/Comapq is having quite bad QC....

I saw HP laptops having LCD screen leak, fellow Compaq series hang, crash. Now it can't detect my DVD rom.
