I had no plugins at all as this was a fresh install I already tried reuploading everything and it still didnt work. However the problem has now been fixed.
I deleted everything (for the 3rd time) and installed 1.2 then upgraded to 1.4 and everything now works fine in the admin BUT I am having other problems with blank pages -- what a headache this is!
