He probably tried 1.6 already, and he liked the prefix manager.. so now he's asking for making it to a plugin for 1.4 while it's not released. But most likely 1.6 will be released in a few months, I guess..
It makes no sense to backport a feature of 1.6. as a plugin to 1.4. when the 1.6 will be released shortly. It is a waste of time and efforts in my opinion.
I have a feeling 1.6 will be here by the new year or shortly after.
