Invision Board just went fully commercial, phpBB is the victim of constant black-hatter attacks, XMB is a bit to dry, and YaBB is CGI. What can we rely on to further the enhancement of the web? MyBB, that's what! With it's multitude of features and interface upgrades I'm sure that MyBB will be the pinacle of forum systems all over the world in short time. I've already suggested it to a few admins.

Thank you, MyBB developers and contributors, for making my forum possible!
Thanks for the compliments! And a special thanks for spreading the word around about MyBB.

We'll do our best to make it the best possible free board available, and live up to your expectations.

Regards,
Chris Smile
I have posted to another forum that had a bunch of irrate now former IPB users and told them to take a look, those that have so far liked what they saw. A converter for IPB 1.3 and 2.0 would surely help, but I hear the encryption part of IPB is really hard.

I was at my witts end searching and looking for a replacement and all of em falling short of what I liked. I ran across this site purely by accident and was floored right off the bat - first impression was best of both worlds IPB and VB. I know a lot of people are in a bind with what IPB did to it's community. I didn't care about the converter I went for it anyway.

I just wish I was better at php to make some mods like the other boards have.
Thanks for the comments.

I believe IPB uses a smilar encryption system for users passwords that MyBB will be using in the next version. A random character salt is generated and stored in the database, then when the user is logged in the password cookied is md5(password.salt). If that's similar to how the IPB 2.0 one is (I read on the IPB forums a long time ago it was like that), then creating a converter for the next version shouldn't be too hard.
In IPB its md5(md5($salt).md5($password)). Smile
Personally, I think this system is better than IPB. It has but a few features short of vB. It is the best out there.
I like the system, and the small but nice community behind it. I've already begun testing out the system for one website, and I may very well use it more on into the future.
Hi all,
Just seemed the right thread to post my wishes in. Smile

I stumbled across MyBB at some site... saw that it looked unfamiliar and looked at the footer. Which led me to the homepage of this site and the rest has been one pleasurable ride.

WOW is all that comes to mind. I am hard put to ask for anything else! The highlights according to me:
  1. MyBB is light on the database. (phpBB in contrast queries mysql thrice as much, and even _this_ is only the bald, stock install of phpBB....)
  2. You managed to get the right "sweet spot" between too many features (which would make it slow) and missing features. I'm literally sighing in relief that the days of phpBB are behind me. (Come on.... even a "print topic" function is considered an add-on with phpBB - I'm fainting of modding it just for BASIC facilities).
  3. Free is not the first reason or even the last, its just a value addition. I'd buy a license when you finally feel its reached release quality. But you also make me feel warm and fuzzy because of the fact that if I have 6 forums and 2 of them make money, then I can pay for only those, and still use the 4 other testing/small boards without paying until the time when I _can_ afford it.
  4. A friendly and loving community, compared to the commercialised ones that others have.... priceless.
In the 4 days I've known MyBB, I've grown to love it and have recommended it to many people - and guess what? Wink
All of them like it, and now 5 boards are live and running MyBB and the others are considering a move as soon as a convertor from phpBB2 to MyBB becomes dependable. WOOOOH!!! I feel so happy!

Keep it up guys, this board software is destined for big things. I want to see my favourite board throw out the current selfish companies that rule the top of the market today! Oh, and please don't aim for the vBulletin-type of app.... vB is not optimized as much as it could have been, and I know that MyBB can certainly have all the things vB has, and still do better than that.
My good wishes to the team that develops MyBB. Smile

I agree with all your points, but what do you mean when you say you're going to "buy a license?" MyBB is free and (I believe) licensed under the GPL, which means you can run as many instances as you want, and you won't owe a cent. I think you can even make money off the board and not owe a penny to the developers.
Hmm.... as far as I know, MyBB is not GPL'ed.
I think I read that a set of support licenses are going to be started (which is going to be pay) when the final comes out. Which is fine by me because even the devs need to get something out of it....
The correct thing to do would be to purchase a support package if my board becomes large enough that it makes money for me.... MyBB is certainly good enough to consider a pay license.

The problem comes with incidents like IPS (Invision). Sad
That company forces you to buy a license no matter how small your board is going to be. Definitely a 15-member family-only forum (non-profit) is not worth paying $100 and more!
