How do I set it so users have to activate their email in order to post?

If you mean that user have to confirm their email First..!!
Admin Cp ==> Configration ==> Users Registration and Profile Options ==> Registration Method
Select *Send Email Validation* from drop down Menu...!! That's all..!!
And Also Check for user group permissions..!!
Admin CP ==> Users and Groups ==> Select "Groups" from left Menu ==> Awaiting Activation ==> Users and Permissions.. here you can select different settings..!!
Okay I have all my permissions set so Awaiting Activation can't post. But on my forum they have been.

Ok, make sure that in all your forums, that the "Awaiting Activation" group is set to be able to view that forum and nothing else.
I have done that, but they are still posting somehow
You must have changed something in the first place to enable them to post, by default the awaiting activation group can't post... printscreen the permissions for the forum they're posting in.
I haven't changed anything. But I recently converted from phpBB3.

Says there it's disallowed... are these suers in any additional usergroups??
