Have ACP/Config setting as follows...

"Registration Method
Please select the method of registration to use when users register.
Administrator Activation"

But am finding a user or two registered without my admin activation (have deleted them).
Actually the only 'registered users' we have had, since I set that confg, are skipping the admin activation.
Assume they are hackers(?), but they havnt posted anything, so not sure what the point was.
Is there another setting that needs to be configured in order to make the admin activation requirement work ?
Had one hacker b4 set to 'admin activate', and thought it might help, but not sure about that now.
May be totally misunderstanding the admin activation function, but assumed it meant that as admin, I would need to approve a users registration b4 they became registered ?
Thoughts ?
Do you still have the default Awaiting Activation group? What is the groupid of the Awaiting Activation usergroup?

Thank you for the reply and clarification questions.

AA group ?

I believe so...

"Awaiting Activation
Users that have not activated their account by email or manually been activated yet."

Not sure what the 'groupid' is, but have attached a screenshot of the 1st settings page.

Thanks again.

Whats the url you see when you visit the Awaiting Activation group page? In the url there is a part that says gid=__ << thats the groupid

Just post the whole url here if you can't find it.
gid=5
Can you test by registering a test user and see if it ends up in the awaiting activation group

Thanks, good suggestion, seemed like got strange results...
The test user ends up in the AA group list (and also the 'all users' list) after registration, but when try to 'activate' ('chkbox' at user and 'go', the result message is that the test user is already activated, and the TU disappears from the AA list.
Also, after registration there was a message that the test user couldnt post, although could login.
Sure enough TU couldnt post, but TU couldnt post after 'activation' either, and no email/s sent to the TU for activation.
Following morning still no TU post rights, and when tried 'resend activation code', got message 'You cannot resend your account activation email as all registrations must be approved by an Administrator.'
Also went back to CP and found TU in the AA group and tried pull-down menu for 'activate user', and got 'The following errors were encountered:
No users were found matching the specified search criteria. Please modify your search criteria and try again'.
Took some screen shots during the TU registration process, dont know if would help, and could go back and do some more if would help.
Thoughts ?

Tried some more testing, and maybe things are working ok.
Need to practice a bit more with the whole thing.
Also, it seems that if go with 'Admin Activation' option instead of
Instant Activation, Send Email Notification, or Send Random Password, then no verification email is sent to the newly registered user ?
Is SRP the next most secure way (assuming AA is the most secure?) to do it, if want to have the verification email sent ?
Have a couple registrations waiting for AA, so guess I can send a manual email to verify.
Thanks again for your help.
Yes, an email will not be sent out if you are set as Admin Activation.

If you want users to activate their accounts as well as use the admin activation then you can set something like this up:

- Set registration to either Email Notification or Random Password (This will send users an email and they will have to verify their accounts or get a password to use)
- Remove posting and other permissions, that you don't want to give users prior to admin activation, from the registered group
- Create a new group which will be your actual registered group where users will end up after admin activation, this will have all the normal permissions.
- Once users verify their account, they will be placed in the Registered group for which you changed the permissions, so to do admin activation, you then move them to the new registered group you created.

You can also set auto promotions to automatically move the user to the new registered group after a number of posts

Thank you very much for that info.
Ive temporarily set it up for SRP, thought that might be easiest/safest at this time.
But, the SRP/AA sounds good.
Can that be set up under ACP/Configuration menu, or do need to modify templates etc ?
Will look at your info more closely, and that may become apparent, just wasnt sure at first glance.
Thanks again for all your help !
