Instead of going to things like SE ( paid
) or elgg, Id like to continue using MyBB.
But is it possible to turn it into a social network.
Basically I need the standard features.
Want it to have a costumizable profile, friend list, like system, photo albums and status updates which can be like a wall and I want it to be able to have all the most recent statuses of users in a single list.
So it this doable, or should I switch to another software for this ?
It is possible, but I don't quite understand why you need all of those features in a forum. Regardless, most of what you asked is already available. Did you even search the forums?
I did, but some are paid and I haven't used them all yet.
So maybe I could also get some tips on if it's doable not only in options but in looks too.
That it'll all work together well, that the plugins aren't total crap ( it's possible ? ).
Or will it take me a lot of time editing files and templates to get it all neatly together.
Such things I actually hope to hear.
But I'll setup a localhost mybb and fool around with it.
I've literally *just* released beta 2 of the Profile System. If you follow the Activity Wall feature, you can find out how to add your own tabs and content to it.
I've already started on Comments, and Statuses are just getting into testing at the moment.

Just because there is one large social networking site doesn't mean there can't be others. I mean hell you could have easily said myspace before facebook was big. Or, say that vBulletin already exists so why make any other forum software...
With no competition things probably wouldn't improve to much.

mybb can also be made a network,thanks to all pluginers,and TomM for my network
I'll just try to put a social network script on the main site and put mybb in /forum
Still need to decide which to use.
Joomla is out of the question because jomsocial is a buggish hell and it doesnt have anything else.
Oxwall seems nice though, any other suggestions ?
Does there exist any social network script that integrates with mybb ?
