When the user goes to the forum they are able to view the Categories (.../sfe/sfebb/index.php), but when they attempt to go to the forum discussion the user gets a 404 error message (.../sfe/sfebb/forum-8.html). The Forum had been working fine for several months until yesterday. Any Suggestions would be great
have you added SEO plug-in / SEO settings recently ? check .htaccess file
No have not added SEO. And .htaccess is fine, (checked against backup version)
forums URL please ..
it appears to be .htaccess problem - have you implemented both internal SEO & Google SEO ??
Again have not implemented any SEO for the board. Have checked .htaccess and no changes have been made to the file (checked from a previous backup) even went so far as to upload the backed up .htaccess and no difference.

My thought is that somehow the SQL driven pages are not loading correctly and that the database has become corrupt.

It seems that the archive pages are working fine and the posts are still available.

^ site URL + temporary admin login (thru PM) might help in checking..
Ok let me try to clarify this problem and see if this makes better sense to the other members out there:

Unable to view any posts or threads in the categories on the board:

Forum address:
http://www.ncsu.edu/project/cnr/sfe/sfebb/index.php
Category levels:
http://www.ncsu.edu/project/cnr/sfe/sfeb....php?fid=8
http://www.ncsu.edu/project/cnr/sfe/sfeb....php?fid=9

Version MYBB 1.6.3
Plugin installed:
Fassim
Theme Installed:
Apart Leaf

Problem:
Until recently the forum has worked flawlessly, now all users are unable to view the threads or create / reply post in standard mode, the user gets an error "Page Not Found" when attempting to view anything past the category level.
For example the page directed for one subforum is:
http://www.ncsu.edu/project/cnr/sfe/sfebb/forum-21.html
this causes the "Page Not Found" error.
The is the same for any forum link throughout the entire forum.

Yet the user is able to view any items from the Archive mode.

Any suggestions, I have checked all that I can think of and did a restore from backup, yet nothing has worked.
Did you check that "forumdisplay.php" and "showthread.php" files exist and are not corrupted?

Did you try to disable the SEO friendly links from the Admin CP and check if the forum is working fine after that?
