Help with Strict Usernames.

I on MyBB v1.8 and i tried installing  Strict Username (mybb.com) , after installing and going to the plugin page theres nothing there, just a tiny little bar with some text. Does anyone know if maybe theres a alternative or newer version or maybe even a fix for this plugin? I really need this because i dislike usernames withs spaces or special characters. Thank you!
