I'm agree, MyBB needs many improvements. It's looks too outdated these days.

I offered to do UI/UX for MyBB but I don't think they are looking for someone for this right now. I think Justin is handling it, and he's a talented designer, so I'm not too worried about it.

I would love to collaborate with a designer on a base theme.

I've actually been thinking about building some sort of basic base theme for a while...

Me and Eric have been dabbling the same thing - problem is we'd have to wait 'till 1.8 to do all this as it's close to release. :\

I don't think 1.8 represents a colossal change in theme structure, does it?

I think it does. The move to jQuery alone is going to break a lot of things. Then there's CSS buttons, CSS sprites and the overall change in look.

Yeah I've been working on a "framework" recently and putting some of this stuff in it. The one I'm making will only be for ad staff theme development though. xp

And yeah, it's definitely going to be work updating even what I have now. At least that's what I'm expecting, with all the things Fabio said. If I were you guys I'd just do a lot of planning for it now, then get to work with 1.8.

I don't think CSS buttons or sprites have much to do with anything, there are lots of themes already incorporating those.
