I thought the same but I've seen a few themes ported from other forum software before (IPB, XenForo, vBulletin) and they were in the mods site, so... I assume is fine. If MyBB team doesn't want it due to "maybe" have troubles in the future, they can reject it or simply remove it, I don't have any problems with that.

Pretty sure that was for paid custom themes from other forum software.
Someone released a default IPB theme for 1.6 before and it was allowed with no problems.

Kind of, I think that's a previous version than the latest one, anyway, my approach is to modify some things.

I've already begun finishing this, considering I am trying to use all default text without custom vars (No need for the extra plugin, some of it was unfinished anyways.) I have a lot of it done, it just needs a good bit of rework. If anyone would like to help me, please quote or pm me? I am not a veteran dev, but I am certainly not a rookie either. Thanks.

The footer actually looks pretty off. When I'm thinking IPB footer the image that comes to mind is this

To be honest I'm not a fan of using custom language variables either. Seems like making more clutter for something not worth it.

The custom vars are completely annoying to me, cause usually some of them end up not working and well... it's annoying. & yeah, the footer could have been better, so I just used the default one and wa-la https://gyazo.com/5234d30a155bc4af2f005082ebfdebaa it ended up looking decent.
