Not Solved Posts disappearing

Not Solved
Good morning. I am running 1.8.29. Yesterday there were 2 posts made which "disappeared" from the thread, for 2 different users. One was a post made by me and one was from another user. We both noticed a post had been deleted and commented in another post. Both of those posts are still there. I found the missing posts in the database. My questions are (1) Any idea why the posts would disappear? (2) Is there any way to restore them and keep it from happening again? (3) Is there any indication in the database that a thread has been deleted?

(2). when a thread are delete, must be display some text like:
Quote:This post by (UserName) has been deleted.

and has a button ---> (Show Thise Post) to restore the post, if you don't see that, you can't restore the posts.

Check the moderator logs, they wouldn't be deleted by themselves so someone must have done it.

"Check the moderator logs, they wouldn't be deleted by themselves so someone must have done it. "

It is a small group of members and I am the only Mod. There is  no other indication that the post was deleted other than the original poster noticing that it is gone. And as mentioned, it is in the database.  But I did check the Mod log and there is no indication that it was manually deleted. Strange stuff for sure.

3) If a post is still in the database but not visible check the record field visible.
1 is visible, 0 is waiting approval, -1 is not visible.
The last one is status if it was deleted by normal means, but that should be logged.
Even if user can delete their posts it is logged in moderator log.

If your post is set visible=-1, then use phpMyAdmin to set it back with visible=1.

Threads are treated the same way. visible=-1

edit to add: visible=-2 for draft mode

So when you say "it's gone", there's no sign of it anywhere in the thread at all? It isn't collapsed (which it would be if it was soft deleted) and it's not there but with an empty message body? The description of the issue doesn't really add up as if it's still in the database, there would be some sign of it in the thread if it was soft deleted.

If you can PM me your URL and an admin login, and database login details, and info on which thread it was, I can have a look - there probably won't be much else we can suggest based on the description.

Well, even stranger - I went to the database to check the record field visible and now the posts are gone from the DB. I know that they were there earlier. Also got a database error once this morning when going to the thread in question, but cleared up when I tried it again. Must have been some kind of database glitch which "repaired" itself. I'm just going to keep an eye on things and hope it does not happen again.

Hm, data won't delete itself from a database though, and if it showed in the database earlier but not on the forum but now doesn't show in the database at all, it sounds like there's either some sort of database replication set up, or a data integrity issue somewhere.

Thanks. I'm not a database person so I have no idea where to start checking for what you have described. The forum has been going along fine for about 3 months now since I started it, so hoping this was just a temporary glitch in the database.

Thanks to all for the information.
