Hm. I was thinking of doing something like:

$template = ($mybb->settings['use_custom_template'] && $mybb->settings['use-custom_template'] == 1) ? GET THE TEMPLATE : USE THE DEFAULT TEMPLATE;

But I don't know if that could/would work.

It does work, but if you ever uninstall it, be sure to remove all traces of it from the templates. It tends to leave the edits in there.

It doesn't.
No errors are shown, but if you uninstall, and re-install, the edits are duplicated.
