In 1.8, fitonpage.js gives me undefines is not a function error on line 230:

Event.observe(window, 'load', fitonpage.init);

So I guess it's unusable.

Is there any alternatives to this plugin, or any quick css solutions?

It will not work with 1.8 so you just got to wait until it has been updated for 1.8 or another similar plugin becomes available.  Sleepy

why? MyBB 1.8.0 has this function in core - auto resizing images

AFAIK it doesn't give you the option to view the image in its original size, or customize the dimensions it will resize them to.
