Could be so, because you have maybe another plugin, which uses jQuery too.

@OP: Why not just use the google version of jquery? Might help solve any jquery issues.

I have really good news for you: I found the same colorpicker as this ported to prototype!
Now I'll try to replace this with the actual colorpicker
