are any of you experiencing these issues running mod_security on your servers (or the host running it)?

Not running on mine - at least not that I can tell. I haven't initiated it myself and I don't seem to see it indicated anywhere on my host's cpanel. How can I check?
you need to ask your host

Or create and upload this file:
info.php
<?php
phpinfo();
?>

Which will tell you which apache modules are loaded Wink

The phpinfo tool in MyBB does not show if mod_sec is running on my server, but I know it is.
I don't know if its running on mine.
In the meantime...

After I applied the manual suggested 1.6.4 changes to the index.php file earlier, I now notice that in my "System Health" section under CHMOD settings it's complaining about the config.php file not being writable. Did the change I made to the index.php earlier create this? Seems unlikely, but I have to ask. If not, that's really strange because all of those files were writable before and now the config.php file is not. I didn't change it.

Also, MyBB is asking me to change the permission to 777, but I've read in other threads to change to 666. Which permission set should I use?
after you have installed MyBB, the config file is static, so the minimum permissions for the webserver to read the file are all that are required.
Mine is just redirecting to random places and sometimes throwing weird traffic. I am not sure if its malicious but i just clicked on my home button and it took me to some porn site. I did it again and it didn't. I am really confused.
