The firefox spell checker is a bit of a godsend - not because I can't spell (debatable) but when you're in a hurry, it's good to be able spot any errors straightaway.
And as to what they teach? I can assure you that they don't teach grammar and spelling properly. Either the population is getting dimmer or the education system is being far too lax.
