Ryan just saw the plugins and wanted to say thank you for reporting your researchs with big boards.
I think Sphinx is a perfectly good solution as it operates at a very low level. Wink

Keep up your good work about big boards!
On a side note the massive webmaster forum Digitalpoint just switched to Sphinx Search as well. He runs VB but this thread is about the benefits of Sphinx. Shawn of DP says his database size was cut in half by adding Sphinx and removing all the indexes they no longer needed for search.
I personally just stick to Google's site search - it's generally more usable than the MyBB search, plus won't cause any load to your server. Of course, the main downside is an external site, plus updates aren't really instant (though for popular boards, it should be fairly close) and perhaps less structured than your own search.
same with me, Yumi
with Google SEO plugins, I sent as many as possible and as frequent as possible.
The result is.. Amazing..
Google Search result within few hours after new thread has been created Smile

but still, Pre-Parse post brilliant mod, even there is an issue with double attachment display like explain here http://community.mybboard.net/thread-431...#pid480590

I considered it but with the ads on the results page I ain't going to do it. Results are also less reliable. Seriously though the Sphinx process and overhead is so low one has to wonder if it's actually running.
Do these benefit smaller boards in any way (I like my board to be as fast as possible)?

I'm sure it could, but obviously these are for the bigger boards. I'm still considering installing some of these just for the hell of it.

Ryan, my posts got converted to HTML. How do I fix it other than hitting Quick Edit and Save Changes? Here's one example.

Plus, they pay out be paypal. <br />
<br />
Anyway, I think a few text ads wouldn't hurt at all - especially if they're beneficial to the site.</blockquote>

My new buddy's on here, yay <img src="http://www.dashingforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="vertical-align: middle;" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />.<br />
<br />
I haven't really earned much myself on BV, but who knows? I should try them one more time.<br />
<br />
EDIT: I'm also considering testing my SEO Template changes on Dashing using the BlazeBB theme (the only demo working right now is my Rock Band Forum one). Comments on that?

I'm impressed with the Pre-Parse Post plugin. But for me disk space isn't a critical limiting factor so I modified the plugin a little bit. My modification stores all pre parsed posts in database regardless of how many replies a thread has or how old a post is. This speeds up thread view to the maximum (but database size will grow also).

Feel free to use it.
Hm, there is a unpleasant bug with Pro-Parse Post plugin. When it's activated all attachements are shown twice...

nice mod, thanks.

I´m trying this plugin from tikitiki but the majority of active threads were not pre parsed after one reply so this is more effective in my case

if there is a step-1 step-2 etc to the installer I could´ve done this regularlly but there isn´t such feature by default - my shared hosting don´t handle all the CPU loading

anyway thanks Ryan and querschlaeger for this tweak code Big Grin

Yes, by default I also run into a server error 500 while activating my modified plugin. Big Grin
But then I increased the php memory_limit to 256MB and the installation works fine (after installation I set php memory_limit to back to default value). Wink
thanks for the help querschlaeger - I´ll try it later Smile
