Glad your not a developer for MyBBToungue But in all seriousness, in software development, you always need to take the extra steps to make sure that everything will work flawless, as far as browsers go. If not, people will complain if something doesn't look right in one browser, but works fine in another - putting you in a tight spot.
Yes, but isn't IE8 going to be out soon? Just how long does legacy need to be supported?

I don't know as I don't use any IEToungue It needs to be supported as long as people are using it..
Look at it this way... right now, .gif works for everybody. Changing it will break it for more people than will benefit from it.
Gif works for every body that uses a white background.
