I don't think that's the same thing at all. Windows 7 and OS X are desktop OSs, iOS and Android are mobile OSs. In the same way iOS and Android wouldn't work on a desktop, I don't see how Windows would work on a tablet. If you've got, say, a 9" touch screen, how can you click things precisely when you'd usually have a much larger screen and a mouse?? If you had one of the new computers that runs Windows and has a full sized touchscreen, that's different, but a small one won't be easy to use.

It's like using an iPhone to browse the internet and visiting two sites, one of which is a normal site, and one of which is a mobile site. You may be able to physically use a normal site, but the mobile site will be a hell of a lot easier to use.

Not exactly. I can have an OS built for a desktop/laptop and have a program to adapt it to a tablet, that is an application which lets you do everything the regular W7 does but made specifically for touch screens/tablets. What people have is a pre-concept of things just because they've been used to the same thing for years.

Do you live in canada? If not, i advise you NOT to get a blackberry anything Big Grin (unless its wifi only Wink)

i don't live in canada, haha. i actually didn't like blackberries at all until about a year ago. i was due for an upgrade and being on at&t, they didn't have any android phones yet, so it was either an iphone, blackberry, windows mobile, or feature phone. i got the bold 9700 and besides the limited app selection, i've loved it.

You do realize that all of your calls and text messages are routed through Canada, so it is affected by Canada's privacy laws. Meaning a government in another country can do whatever they like with your messages etc... Smile Basically the canadian government can read your messages and record your calls.

i don't think calls and text messages are, because i can make calls and send texts when the BIS servers are offline/down.
either way, it doesn't bother me.

+1.

All you emails and messaging go through RIM's datacenter in Ontario Canada Wink
yea, i was aware of that when i bought it, but it's really not a big deal to me.
Ok, just some people don't Wink

ONTOPIC: I like the iPad, but can't afford one! Big Grin the rumours about the iPad 2 look promising

I, on the other hand, judge software in its entirety, as well as thorough understanding of it.
And surely, the company/person/whatever that made it will affect the quality and aspect of the software.
Being Apple, they'll probably drop support for the current gen iPad after a few years, so you don't get any more software updates or similar. The one posted by the op runs an x86 processor, so potentially, you'll always have updates available. (x86 isn't dying any time soon)

I find it amusing how so many people here seem to think that the only thing that matters is the interface. A device or software is (at least IMO) a lot more than just the interface. Of course, some people may disagree, but each to his own.
But anyway, I beg to differ. Touch support was one of the big things of Windows 7, so your claim that it wasn't made for a touch interface is incorrect.
And even if it wasn't, non-Apple hardware = you have the freedom to install whatever you want on it, so if Windows doesn't take your fancy, stick whatever other OS works for you.
I'd get the Galaxy Tab. Same price as an iPad, smaller, and has a camera.
iRobot aPad
Should of been obvious.

I saw the commercial for it for the first time today, I have to say I like the look of it a lot more.

In terms of a touch device, I'd say it's the most important aspect. Just because Windows 7 made a token effort at touch support does not mean it's done well.

You certainly have a more thorough understanding of the technical side of software than I could ever hope to, but I also wonder if this blinds you from viewing technology from the point of view of a non-obsessive/enthusiast.

For the record, I use Mac OS X and an iPhone, but I don't have an iPad and don't have any intention to obtain one in the near future

Man, the MyBB Community is definitely home to the worst analogies on the internet.

Nailed it absolutely.
