What forum inspired you?
#11
I was first inspired by the forums for Civilization Fanatics and by the forums at Maximum PC (from which I later got banned from - long story don't ask!).

Also when I started my completely online business, I wanted a way to interact with customers other than a blog (which is hard to keep updated for a company IMHO). So I went the route with forums and expanded from just one site to the current day six or seven. My company's site was acquired along the way, and eventually a name change happened to better fit the direction I was moving my company in.
I fold for team 52482. Do you fold?

I first time saw MyBB being used by Dota Utilities Forums back in end of 2008 - start of 2009, and since then, I came to knew about MyBB and started a gaming forum with it in 2010.

I'm not talking about UB. UB was my third MyBB forum. I started R2S back in June 2010. First, R2S was on forummotion phpbb free forum. Then I planned to use similar software (MyBB) as to what Dota Utilities used as it was very easy to go with. And then in around June end, 2010, I started R2S from scratch using MyBB. I didn't even knew HF back at that time. It was only around late December 2010 (I joined there looking for something In June or July, which I certainly don't remember now) when I became a little active on HF as I started doing free-lancing graphic services.

So yeah, HF didn't told me the name of MyBB, Dota Utilities Forum did.

And btw, I forgot. I came to knew about MyBB actually in early January, 2009, but at that time, I certainly didn't possessed internet over home, so I just joined a few MyBB sites like central, Dota Utilities forums, and downloaded MyBB install package and took it away over at my home and installed at localhost and played with it when I got time to.

Fair enough, but HF inspired you to make UB? Or in simpler terms you based UB on HF?

no forum inspired my big board, it was started with phpBB 1.0.7 back in 2000 before forums were a much of a deal in my niche. We were still using mailing lists back then
Lost interest, sold my sites, will browse here once in a while. It's been fun.

Modthesims (MTS) inspired me. It was the first forum I ever joined and I loved it from day one. It runs on VBulletin and is very customised. I got to know lots of people via the forum and one day I wanted to help some friends set up a forum (www.livingsims.net) and after researching the free forum software I chose Mybb because of its ACP and the postbits.

After a while I wanted the freedom of my own board and setup leefish.nl. I see it as a homage to MTS Big Grin
Random Fish and Sims Maniac

Money inspired me. I know, it sounds stupid. But after seeing earnings from
other successful forum owners, it amazed me so I started up my own forum.

It's going pretty well. Hack Forums is a great inspiration though!

I think that's the mistake that many "webmasters" make, they get in it for the wrong reasons - money being one of them. I don't think money should motivate a true forum administrator.

Am I the only one who came from YugiohCardMaker.net? =P I've been a member on those forums since 2007. In 2008, I remember they had some downtime because of something the admin was trying to install, so when I went to the forums the MyBB error page was showing. I didn't know what MyBB was, so I googled it and found out that I could make my own! I started with something like vovamivu.createmybb.com, then joined Netsage's Admin forums and won solidcorruption.com (God, do I wish I had that domain back!).
