[For 1.6] MyBBatically
#11
For the first point correct and that's the same if you upload the files yourself anyway so there isn't much we can do about that :p There is a warning on core file changes before you upgrade.

As for the second one I had forgotten about those so ill try and add that in the next version Smile

@lexy yes I tested this on version 1.6.7 :p

I wanted to point out this before someone complains about, that code changes have gone Wink

Interesting plugin. Some feature suggestions if I may:
  • support renamed admin directories, a lot of boards use those
  • add an option to update code files only (*.php *.js *.css *.html) but not image files (*.gif *.png *.jpg) as some boards may have customized graphics under the original filenames which would otherwise be overwritten.
  • add an option to update even when there is no update (i.e. download and extract the latest version). This could be useful for two situations: a) the owner modified code files and wants to revert to original, or b) MyBB changed something in the download archive after the update was already released [happened several times in the past]

No probs always happy to have suggestions Toungue

1st point: Yep definitely that should be in the next version. Smile
2nd point: Interesting idea I'll look into that.
3rd point: Yeah that did occur to me, I'll probably make it so you can upgrade all the time but maybe change the wording if you're already on the current version.

Thanks for those Smile

I guess, if I use this plugin for upgrading, every code changes that might have been made before are gone?

What about renamed admin-folders? Any chance to integrate an according setting to the plugin?

As Polar said, for the first point when upgrading manually you'll overwrite them too. We added a notice to the module to inform you of this with a checkbox that must be selected for it to run, just incase you haven't already got a list of all of the core edits you've made.

I'm probably just reiterating exactly what Polar said here:

I do think the re-naming of the admin directory is key, certainly something we forgot about. I quite like the idea of allowing users to choose whether they wish to overwrite image files or not too. Originally we did start by allowing anyone (regardless of their version) to run it, however we decided to add a check for the latest version in there. This could certainly be re-considered, however.

Thanks for all the ideas guys Smile

Another option:

Maybe create a backup of the files which have been changed? Like that the updater packs the updated files together in a zip file or something like that so things can be reverted when it went wrong.

I quite like the idea of having an option to backup the files / db before upgrading. Any views Polar? Toungue
