$20/month for SSL is too much. I only pay $26/year for my VPS.

You're actually not paying for SSL per se (it is included free of charge for all paid plans). You're actually paying for the more advanced security and caching options for Pro accounts (WAF, faster reporting, Website Preloader).

That being said, we do hope to offer a cheaper option for folks that simply want support for SSL that doesn't cost 20.00 per month.

An Ala Carte option for some of your services would be nice.

Yes, but somewhat complicated to implement with how the current billing system will work. What we will likely do is create a lower tier of service for some basic products that people really, really want to use w/out high costs (SSL, for example).

Yes I do use CF and soon I am planning on upgrading PRO as well.

I haven't lost any potential visitors or had any traffic being affected with it. Those who are blocked by CF and are legit visitors can simply enter the captcha and get access to the site, its simple.

The good point in that would be spam bots getting blocked highly, which are drastically reduced after I adopted CF over UB.

So yes, its a thumbs up from me, as of now.

Why some visitors are challenged when using CloudFlare

Site admins, however, can control this by changing their security level settings to a higher or lower settings. Site admins can also override any challenge behavior by whitelisting IPs or IP blocks.

I decided to try out CloudFlare when DreamHost offered it. However, it screwed up (broken) loads of images on my forum and another non-MyBB section of my site. A DreamHost engineer claimed it could have been because of a lot of images having a "http://mysite.com" URL in the HTML/PHP rather than with the www subdomain ("http://www.mysite.com"), which apparently is a requirement. I didn't want to have to edit loads of stuff in MyBB including plugins, and the other section of my site, so I removed CloudFlare.

It also messed up a lot of the URLs of those that did display, and the URLs were weird base64 long encrypted gobble-de-gook. Unless you're experienced and you're willing to deal with a lot of hassle if that crap hits the fan, I'd recommend avoiding CloudFlare. On the other hand, DreamHost with their usual casual attitude literally said CloudFlare would work perfectly with just two clicks on their panel, which is why I did it due to their claim of it "doubling site speeds".

The www requirement is only if you're activating through a hosting partner. If you don't want to use www on the site, then signing up directly is an option.

We don't do anything that would re-write urls in the manner you're describing. Are you using any other caching services or caching plugins on your site?

Sorry you had a bad experience. We are working with DreamHost on making the on-boarding process less painful & to fix known issues.

I'm sure they'll iron out the Dreamhost issues over time.

Sure will. There are always little bumps with a new partner launch because some of them have very custom integrations. Dreamhost has been great at telling us what the issues are and working with their customers to fix.
