Its NOT bots I am dealing with. Its spammers hammering my forum from Russia! I'm about to give up and shut down my forum if this continues. Tried reCaptcha, no help, tried MyBB built in spam protection, not much help either. Very annoying...they even have their own avatars, that are in every post. Show me a bot that does that.
If you are having problems with spammers from one country, look into using .htaccess to block IPs of that country.
Registration Security Questions plugin was working ok for me for a while, but a bunch of spammers were getting through lately.
I've since added 3 plugins which have eliminated most of my spam:
Checkbox Validation
Register Time
Spamalyser
The first two have pretty much eliminated all of the fake account signups. And for those that do get through, or for the guest posts, Spamalyser plugin blocks 99% of the posts from ever being displayed.
I just installed
stopforumspam and the result is awesome!

Just a suggestion I wouldn't suggest posting peoples IP's/Emails. As they may not be spammers but people joining.
MyBB has, as a standard feature, an ip block option.
You can block the Russian ip hackers very easily. So unless your forum is for men seeking Russian brides, you should give it a try.
ACP>Users&Groups>Banning>Banned IPs
You can block entire regions with the ###.*.*.* method.
It's very fun - you can go back the next day or so and see their attempts to access and when they were blocked.

installed and noticed after spam registrations not slowing i checked the logs
every single registration attempt in the last 12 hours or so has had this:
Error: StopForumSpam.com could not be reached
Their website could possibly be down temporarily.
