The reasons why I like MyBB?

Well....
It's easy to theme, and if you have a small understanding of PHP you can change a few files with out doing any bad damage to the software, it's free (Under the GPL license).
And it comes with great plugins and mods, as well as easy patching/upgrade process.

Sorry if my english is bad, I really need to be in bed.
And there are a LOT of things you can do with the forum that you can't do with others so easily.

-Displaying forum news on your site
-Integrating your site w/login form.
The look, the feel, the ease-of-use, the customisation, the free-ness... there's millions of reasons why it's the best Smile
Having subtitles is something that would be a great plus, but something I've been without for quite a while. And I've not spent anytime looking at what IPB 3.0 is slated to be like. I'll send you a PM with a few questions about it.

I'd started a sports message board years ago for Mississippi and it grew fairly sizable before Scout.com courted me to move it to their network. Here's a snapshot of it from Wayback Machine (minus some formatting). But now that my current site is on Scout.com they use their own proprietary forums. They lack in a big way from what I was used to with IPB, they say it's because they have to be scalable across their entire network of college and professional sites. One huge member database that can access the hundreds of sites.

All that to say I'm looking at some new projects. Wanting to start a forum for my local community. I live in a university town (Go SEC!) and think there are a lot of people who would be active because this is where they live, and also because they identify with the university on a number of levels. Plus the city is a tourist spot of sorts too so I believe the interest is there.

And I'm wanting to get the best value out of my software choice. And to be comfortable and confident in how to run it. Plus have it offer features that my users will enjoy. That's why I'm asking so many questions about MyBB. And I thank you all for the help and input.
Well it's easy to add features too. Which is why I love MyBB over SMF and phpBB. They both require theme edits for stuff. SMF says it doesn't but that's only if your using hte default theme.

Plus with Labrocca and other developing a lot of great plugins I'm sure you'll get what you want eventually.

http://mods.mybboard.net/ is our official repository, but MyBB Central and other places are good as well.
I use many in the past. Now I come to settle on MYBB for customers sites.
It is all down to what you get comfortable with as a designer/builder.
And also some free forum software the upkeep is lagging by developers. Mybb seems on the ball for the most part.

http://www.mybbsource.com is doing nicely too. Glad to see them stepping up.

And you asked about thread descriptions...not sure if this is the only place to get it but here:
http://audentio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4237

Audentio does great designs for mybb and other forum software.

Mybbfans.com was a resource but they sort of left the wayside.

MybbThemes.8ez.com is cool for themes (largest resource for themes?)

http://mybbthemes.8ez.com (I actually host that for Firefoxwiz)

There are others too. It's a process. Slowly we are attracting more and more talent to the project.
Labrocca you didn't even provide a link to your own site Toungue.

http://mybbcentral.com
I didn't think I needed to. Smile

Should have added your own site. As for Audentio i am not so sure anymore. he/they havent done much up to this point where 1.4 is concerned. Only one theme has been updated atleast by him anyways. It is a shame because he does professional themes and not just color changes either.

Firefox though has more then made up for that with a bunch of new themes for 1.4 already. Big Grin A number of others as well including Justin's afresh themes here which are top notch and not just color changes either. There is another dude as well ( changed his handle here recently ) who is doing up some very nice themes.

Also there is that MyVB for those who like that sort of thing. Couple of cool plugins i saw there as well recently.

I would still like to see a working plugin for cleaning up nested quotes.
