Hi,
I have been working on a Search Engine Friendly URL Mod for MyBB and I am about 50% complete. Here is small example of the URL changes:

Old URL's:
http://www.mysite.com/showthread.php?tid=56
http://www.mysite.com/showthread.php?tid=56&pid=178
New URL's:
http://www.mysite.com/thread56.html
http://www.mysite.com/thread57-post178.html

I am wondering if there is a real need for this mod. I noticed the Archive directory already has Search Engine Friendly URL's, so do you think the other pages on the forum need them also?

Please vote in the poll, and post your reasoning below.

Thanks!

well i gave no opinion, coz i always believe in that things can fit this but not that, so some will be ok with it other will not.

so let the poll talk Big Grin

I voted yes. I'd be intrigued to see if it actually improves SEO. I've heard mixed responses from vBSEO.
Yes here.
Yes. The only way to see if it works is to actually install it and try it.
Just wondering how you are doing it. Are you using htaccess or actually modifying the code?

I am modifying a small amount of the PHP, but the friendly URL's will be powered entirely by Apache Mod Rewrites.
If that mod would be available, and easy to install (no big problems with each upgrade of mybb), I would go for it and switch off the native archive functionality.
Very interesting. Dennis and I both have not seen this thread and we were just discussing this. It would seem very nice to implement Search Engine Friendly URLs in MyBB by default, but I'm not promising anything right now.
Thank you for all of your replies! I have decided to continue building this mod and I will release once it is fully BETA tested.

If anyone is interested in BETA testing, please PM me and I will let you know when the testing grounds will be setup.

Thanks again!
Most spiders can only handle 4 or 5 GET parameters in the URL.
