I agree with you 100% there Mebes. Most forums starting out purely for financial reasons tend to fail.

It was a Pokémon forum who inspired me, faviouz (aka Fábio Maia) know which one I'm talking about, since I'm pretty sure that it was also how he found MyBB. They were using MyBB and I got interested in all this forum things. I searched about it and created my first forum at createmybb.com, it was about gaming at that time. Then, sad about the limit access of this service for what I needed, I searched about how to create a forum with MyBB, but this time with a host and a domain. With the help of a friend, I did it successfully.

Money inspired me. I know, it sounds stupid. But after seeing earnings from
other successful forum owners, it amazed me so I started up my own forum.

It's going pretty well. Hack Forums is a great inspiration though!

So what do you want to hear on that, a nice or an honest response even though two people already gave the latter one.

Anyway, back on topic. I was inspired by the WBO. I thought it was so cool, and I liked the design so much, I decided "I want to make something like that, for what I like."

I know its maybe a weird example compared to others. But seeing how thats one of the better forums on the internet and that the higher post count members are generally an amazing community , it lead to being inspired a few years ago. Even before the curse merge to make at first guild sites back then and later more specific forums (all SMF back then why? because mmoc used to be a smf site (http://web.archive.org/web/2008091502101...mpion.com/ ) ) and now trying out MyBB since a couple of months and loving most of it.

Since my main niche now is admin forums, my biggest inspiration is still TAZ (the admin zone). I am a premium member there with over 1.5k posts and it's the leader in our niche. My dream is to make my own forum no.2 in 2-3 years. Won't be too easy to get to no.1 since TAZ has 600K posts and I am close to 8K only, but being on the 'podium' in few years would actually be a huge accomplishment.
